the muse, and how, in the end, the only way to guarantee that she (or he) is going to show up is to sit thyself down in thy chair and get to work -- just start making words on a regular basis and the muse will regularly arrive. One might have to struggle for a bit for the muse to show up, and sometimes she may never come, but the regular writing is the best guarantee anyone seems to have to insure one's muse will arrive.
My muse, of course, is different.
My muse arrives at about 11:45 p.m., just about every night. She tickles my brain, and whispers story, characters, and lines in my ears, luring me out of my bed and into the office where I shall run my pen over paper and make words, get to bed late, and then be exhausted the next day. And I can't deny her. She's a lusty lady, that one.
