I was writing for a long time last night, and I only got out 763 words.

Let's talk about why that is, mmm?

(Great. Here I go again exposing myself. Oh well. It seems to be my new hobby.)

So I was typing away, like a good little girl, and then it came up that my two main characters for this part of the book might do a bit of hanging out in which some Very Exciting StuffTM might happen. You know, the kind of Very Exciting StuffTM that gives new meaning to "Getting to know you, getting to know all about you, getting to like you, getting to hope you like me."

Ahem.

Now, I'm really not that puritanical, or pure. If nothing else, I have two children. I didn't find them under a potato plant, even this if this is Idaho. And we really don't need to get into anymore detail here. I'm thirty years old. I am a modern American. I know what the lower back tatoos for women are for.

But I'm writing this part of the story, and I think I've kind of been dreading writing it. I know it has to happen. It's an important piece of the story and plot. And I'm working into writing this bit, and I've got all the music on my drive on shuffle (which is an awful lot of music), and Richard X's presentation of Jarvis Cocker singing "Into U", with a Mazzy Star sample comes on, and well, it's just perfect for what we're writing here, so we set it up to play this song a lot.

I don't think that song helped whatsoever in terms of actually moving forward with words.

And I just couldn't get through the 763 words. I promise you -- I was blushing. I kept finding my head on my arms on the desk in front of me, completely embarrassed. Really. And in the end, nothing really happened between the characters. Of course, it didn't help that I knew what each of them was thinking, even though that never ended up on the paper. (POV issues, you see.)

It helped that [livejournal.com profile] akanthos came on for a while to distract me. He's so good at that. But in the end he left me with my characters, standing around in a room, waiting for me to make the next move so they could move on with their lives, and I could hit my 750 words for the night.

I gotta tell you all, the only other time I really ever do anything like this is when I'm reading particular stories by Neil Gaiman. But I think that's partially the stories and partially that, as this friend and I have both agreed, it's a wonder his wife lets him out of the house at all. Just sayin'.

Yes, yes. I have this thing for ... well ... yes. Anyway.

Wow. You all know a great deal more about me, don't you?

Perhaps if you hang a tie on your IM status?
I'm trying to change and be online more. Really, I can change.
