This has been a fine writing week.
I wrote a short story, "Quest for the Pipe", and did a first edit pass. It's up at Critters with the mpc from April, which I accidentally earned, but have found useful. I'll have to get another one of those. I'm not sure the editing job I did was a good one, though. I'll probably run through it again this weekend and see what I think. If necessary I'll send through another edit.
I've done some expanding on "Bison's Child" which, though I hate to admit it, has probably always been necessary. Bummer, though. But it means I'm learning, so that's good. The bloody story already clocks in at just under 12k, but there's not a lot of cutting room necessarily. It's a long story. Unless I significantly rewrote/removed some stuff.
So this weekend will involve editing. Not a bad thing after all the fresh writing I've done over the last couple of weeks.
I like the idea of writing at least one thing a week. It feels good. It feels like I've actually accomplished something. I mean, if nothing else, I can write at least 500 words a week -- a flash, a drabble, etc., right?
I've been reading John Gardner's The Art of Fiction, which has left me with some "A-ha!" and some "Duh -- I know that, but I should know that" moments. I've also been rereading 999, a fine horror anthology. I hope horror is heading towards another golden era with good stories and good writing. There's potential there, if the writers and readers will allow that to be the case. And the publishers. Can't forget them.
In any event, it's time for bed.
