I wonder if, for some people, part of the issue of hitting competency, like Jeff VanderMeer talks about, is partially because of fear. And there's a lot of types of fear here. (And I know it's not just fear -- there's skill issues, experience issues, etc.)
But I don't know about all of you, or everyone else, so I'm going to just talk about myself for a moment.

I have bizarre tastes for my part of the world, and it occasionally gets lonely. Though my local college radio station has played Jarvis Cocker twice now. (It wasn't ever "Running the World", but that will never get any mass airplay, no matter how true it is.) And Kelly Link's Magic for Beginners is now available at the local bookstore.
