feeding ancestors
Jan. 8th, 2007 02:49 amBetween about 1 and 4:30 today I wrote "Feeding the Ancestors". It is 6,500 words long. No, I don't know how I wrote a 6,500 word story in about 3 1/2 hours, except that I wrote it while the children slept for about 2 3/4 hours (!) and then played for the rest. Also, I had the story pretty well complete when I woke up this morning because, well, the fates thought they'd smile down on me today. When I looked up to find my story complete, and saw that it was 4:30, we made a mad dash to hit the grocery store. We needed milk, bread, and clementines, you see. Mostly the clementines.
The story needs significant editing. It also may need a completely rewrite. There is no reason why this story needs to be 6,500 words. It's a basic concept, a basic story. A family eats together. Stuff happens. It ends. I hope I can at least cut it by 1/3, if not 1/2. But I have draft zero, and I'll set it aside for a bit, and then I'll pull it out and work on it.
Now I have to write my first 750 words for the 90 day novel I'm working on. If I can do 6,500 today, I can do another 750 tonight.
