well, i can say that lesson is dead-on correct. i'm better at non-fiction because that's what i write the most. i suck at fiction because i hardly write it anymore, and i miss it most desperately. problem is, i'm in survival mode and fiction won't pay the bills. the lack of talent may have a bit to do with this, as well.
NaNo is a great exercise, and if circumstance permits, i'd like to give it a try next year. the first and only time i tried it, i crapped out at 20k. still, that's quite an accomplishment for someone who had rarely written anything over 1000 words.
